Personalizing Folder Icons

Ever create a new folder and get tired of looking at that same manilla colored box? Well, you are in luck! There is a very creative (and simple) way to change that. My friends at Icon Archive have thousands of different icons to choose and change those boring folders. Here, I will provide the steps in order to change these to upbeat and fun looks:

Before you begin, you want to create a folder to keep all your icons in. This will ensure that the icons are in a centralized location that you are able to find easily. Once you create the folder and start using the icons from it, if you move the location of the folder, all of your icons will change back to stardard icons.

Now you have that taken care of the rest is pretty simple:

Step 1: Locate an icon that you would like to use. Although Icon Archinve (http://www.iconarchive.com/) has thousands to choose from, there are alternate sites to locate icons. Be sure that your icon uses the extension .ico for this is the icon file extension.

Step 2: Download the icon to the designated folder.

Step 3: Choose an folder icon that you would like to change

Step 4: Right Click the folder, Click Properties, Click the Customize tab, Left Click Change Icon

Step 5: Click Browse and locate your icon folder

Step 6: Choose the icon that you would like to use for the folder

Step 7: Enjoy!

Keep in mind that folders are not the only things that you can change. You are able to also customize the icons for shortcuts that you have. This is done in the same fashion as changing the icon for the folders.

I hope that you enjoyed this short tutorial. For more tips and tricks, stay tuned to my blog where updates are coming shortly.
